Connect, by Emily MadillFebruary 23, 2014 “I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.” – Brené Brown This week’s Confidence Booster is inspired by one of my favorite Brené Brown quotes on connection (above). I believe connection is a fundamental part of our health and well-being. We are born into this world extremely vulnerable and dependent on our loved ones for care and connection. As time marches forward, we develop and maintain relationships with others by our own choosing. Who we decide to surround ourselves with is of great consequence, as not all relationships leave us feeling confident or valued for who we truly are. I have had my share of undesirable experiences with others that fail to bring out my best qualities. I have also been very fortunate to form connections with some really amazing people who see and accept me for who I am, and vice versa. These connections are some of my most cherished gifts. They have become a vital source for both giving and receiving love and pure joy. Having others around us we can relate to and connect with on a deeper level, inspires passion and heartfelt living. Feeling seen, heard and loved is a powerful way to feel good about who we are. Sometimes life can become so busy that we don’t make the time to have real authentic interactions with others, and this can very quickly turn into feeling disconnected and alone. This week, take some time to touch base and connect with the special people in your life, these shared experiences will be a boost to both parties! Enjoy ‘Believe In Yourself’ ~ Emily
